Daniel Ellis Selected for Olympics   Tuesday, June 17, 2008

CCC Member Daniel Ellis has been selected for the Team Sprint event at the Beijing Olympics and may also be riding the Sprint.

Dan has been focused and training hard with the goal of qualifying for the Olympics this year, although as the youngest rider on the team he thought that realistically he might have to wait until 2012. However this year Dan has become the fastest Australian junior ever for the start lap of the team sprint, 1st year Junior Worlds. He has then backed up to be the fastest Australian elite rider for the start lap of the team sprint (Beijing World Cup Dec 07). He will also be the youngest Australian cyclist to go to an Olympics.

The CCC would like to wish Dan all the best in his preparations and races. We will all be glued to the TV cheering you on.

CCC Member Road Race Grading   Thursday, June 05, 2008

To assist with the handicapping of future road races in Canberra (excluding summer crits) the CCC handicapper has prepared a list of all club members and their assigned grades. These grades are currently in draft form and we would like to ask each of our members to take a moment to check their grading to ensure it is correct.

If anyone feels they have been graded incorrectlyor they are missing from this list they should send an email to Jason Mahoney at jasonm.home@gmail.com. This email should contain details of your recent race results, etc to enable your grade to be re-assessed.

Canberra Cyclists Survey   Monday, June 02, 2008

To help us better understand the road racing needs of cyclists in Canberra we would like to hear your opinion on road cycling events in the region. To enable this to occur a survey has been developed.

While the survey has been designed for Canberra Cycling Club members all cyclists in Canberra and the surrounding regions should feel free to complete the survey as the results will be shared with all clubs in the region (CCC, TVCC, Vets, etc).

The Survey will run until 31 June (1 month) to allow enough time for as many people to complete the survey as possible. There are only 20 questions in the survey and it shouldn't take very long to complete.

The survey can be accessed at http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=48926f99-5202-4573-aa67-223b859101cf

Other clubs are free to distribute the link to the survey as they see fit.

Please note: the survey is hosted by an online survey site and all responses are anonymous as you will not be required to enter your name, age etc.

Goulburn Junior Cycling Tour   Monday, May 19, 2008

The Goulburn Junior Cycling Tour is scheduled next weekend 24/25 May and for the first time this year the organisers have added an Under 19's category.

Unfortunately the entries in the Junior Women's Under 19 category have been very disappointing but rather than cancel the race the organisers have decided to open entries to Open Women to race with the Under 19 Women.

This will be a very good opportunity for Canberra's female cyclists to race in a Tour, relatively close to home, over easier terrain than Canberra's races generally offer.

Full details of the Tour can be found at http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/ on the 2008 Winter Race Calendar.

Race Organisers are supportive of waiving any late entry fees for entries into the JW19/Open Women category.

The Goulburn Club would very much appreciate you encouraging your member's or associate's to enter this event. They are very keen to promote the race and to provide quality racing opportunities for Juniors and Women in the local region.

Regards

Steve

2008 Canberra Ride of Silence
www.rideofsilence.org
Saturday May 24th
9.30 am
Regatta Place

The Ride of Silence is held yearly in cities across the world. For the first time in Canberra, join other cyclists in a silent ride at a slow pace to promote safer roads for all road users. Riders are encouraged to wear armbands: black for everyone, or red for those who have been injured by motorists.

The 2008 Canberra Ride of Silence aims to:

  • - remember those killed or injured whilst cycling on roads.
  • - raise awareness of the need for all road users to respect one another and to use roads in a considerate manner.
  • - promote the importance for cyclists and motorists to obey the road rules.
  • - remind the community that cyclists are ordinary people who have a right to safety on our roads.

Where: Start and finish at Regatta Place, north of Commonwealth Avenue bridge.
When: Arrive at 9am for a 9.30 start.

The ride: Approx. 6 km in length at a slow pace (max. 20 km/h) in a loop that includes part of the Parliamentary Triangle. The Ride of Silence will take place on open roads and participants will be expected to ride safely and considerately and obey all traffic laws.

The 2008 Canberra Ride of Silence is endorsed by:
Pedal Power ACT
Females in Training
ACT Veterans Cycling Club
Canberra Cycling Club
Vikings Cycling Club ACT

Those that take part in the Ride of Silence must be aware that they do so at their own risk. All welcome; all you need is a bike and a helmet.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Please distribute the flier widely to your networks, websites, friends and email lists. Small versions can be put up on bike paths; but if you do this PLEASE ENSURE you remove them after the event in respect of our environment. The flier is attached and can also be seen at:
