The Tour de Femme is a women’s-only twenty kilometre ride that doubles as both a race and a participation event. In 2007 it will be held on Sunday 11th November. Many of Australia’s top female riders have competed in previous events and are expected to return this year including Oenone Wood. Previous winners have included Oenone Wood, Alison Wright, Kim Palmer and Tracey Gaudry. There are a range of age divisions with separate prizes that are hotly contested each year.
In addition to those interested in racing, the Tour de Femme attracts a large number of participants who treat it as a ‘fun-run’ on wheels. More than 600 riders competed in 2006. Everyone who enters by the closing date will receive a T-shirt and a water bottle. It is not necessary to have a club or open racing licence to enter. Riders from teens to those in their eighties participate.
Race starts at
9am on Sunday 11 November and registration is from 4pm to 6pm on
Saturday 10 November at Stromlo Forest Park.

Rider Information - Updated - 7-11-2007
The 2007 Tour de Femme looks set to be the largest ever, we envisage more than 600 women taking to the start line on Sunday. Canberra Cycling Club acknowledges the generous support of our sponsors, who help to make the event possible: The Canberra Times, The Bike Shed, Sports Care and Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets. Please support the sponsors who support this event.
Registration
Registration will be between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday 10th November, at Stromlo Forest Park.
All riders must register, where they will receive their race number, timing band, souvenir t-shirt and water bottle. If you can’t make registration on Saturday afternoon, please get someone to pick up your kit for you. It is likely to be too hectic on Sunday morning for late registration.
If you don’t know where Stromlo Forest Park is, please see this website: http://www.stromloforestpark.com.au/about/gettingthere.html
If you have never ridden on the criterium circuit at Stromlo Forest Park before, feel free to bring your bike out on Saturday. It is 1.2 kilometres of beautiful smooth hot mix asphalt. A great way to test your bike is working before Sunday.
Start
The ride/race starts on Mariner Place east, next to Alexandrina Drive (near the Canberra Yacht Club) at 9am on Sunday 11th November. All riders should be present and ready by 8:30am.
The first riders to start will be the tandems, followed a few minutes later by the reminder of the riders. There will be a reserved area for seeded riders at the front of the start line. A larger area for all other riders will be behind the seeded riders. Please assist a safe event by lining up for the start at an appropriate place for your standard/ability.
Course/Map
A map of the course is available at: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/australia/canberra/549145327
Please not that there is a slight variation in this year’s course. To avoid the road-works at the end of the Gungahlin Drive extension, the ride will exit Parkes Way onto Lady Denman Drive (at Clunies Ross Street), follow Lady Denman Drive along the edge of the Lake before returning to the Parkway before the Zoo/Dam.
Race Numbers
At registration, riders will receive a race number. This should be worn low and left on your back (on your left hip).
Road and Traffic Conditions
The roads are not closed to traffic while the race is on, though the course will be marshalled and police will be in attendance. Please:
- Ride safely and in control;
- Look out for hazards;
- Point out hazards to those around you; and
- Obey the instructions of marshals and police.
It is vital to the future use of roads for events like this that riders obey the law. There is to be no crossing unbroken lines or moving out of the left lane, except when required for turning. The police and organisers will not hesitate to exclude a rider who rides dangerously or against the law.
Timing
At registration, riders will receive a timing band to be worn on your left wrist during the race.
Immediately after crossing the finish line, riders are requested to slow down, stay in order and proceed to where their finishing order will be recorded using the timing bands. The official results and placings are recorded by the judges on the line. However results will be available faster if riders observe the procedure above.
Please return your timing bands immediately after your finish has been recorded. They are expensive to replace.
Teams
There is a trophy for the fastest total time for teams of four. If you have not already entered your team and would like to enter a team of four riders, please email your team name and the names of the riders to miles.prosser@a3p.asn.au by Friday.
Late Entries
If you know of others who would like to participate, late entries will also be accepted at registration on Saturday 10th November, however a $5 surcharge will apply and a water bottle or t-shirt will only be available if there are spares after the race on Sunday.
