The CCC summer criterium season has 14 rounds beginning November 4 and continuing through to February 24. The season will incorporate the Cart’s Christmas Crit on December 16 and the Club Champs on February 17. Back by popular demand this season is the rotating times for all grades except juniors. A slight change this year will be the track direction rotation which will change every month.
Entry for all senior grades will remain at $8, juniors will remain at $2. Prize money will be paid to the top 4 riders in each race and will be a set amount each week.
Squad Details
As per previous seasons riders can compete as individuals, or in a squad. People may be familiar with the cycling term ‘Team’, as in Team Columbia Highroad. In order to align with the timing system our crits will refer to these group of riders as Squads. Squads are a group of people spread across various grades, all riding for a shared interest or sponsor, for example Bike Culture. Larger squads, like QUON, are usually broken up into Teams. A team is a group of riders from the same squad. Teams can be made up of 7 riders spread across various grades or the same grade.
Squads and teams will be monitored in the online registration system and any points you gather throughout the season will contribute to your individual, team and squad points. Further information will be provided in the point score details to follow.
If you are riding as part of a squad you will need to email the following information, Squad name, team names, names of team members, to nathanspillane@me.com. A one week lead time will be required after Sunday the 1stof November, for any further Squads, team or rider changes.
The club would also appreciate it if individuals who are racing the crits for the first time email jpparkes@three.com.au with their details for the registration system.
Team Details
The following points need to be adhered to when compiling your crit teams:
Teams can consist of between 3 and 7 riders
Riders in teams can be spread across various grades or the same grade.
Riders will remain in their allocated teams for the crit season regardless of grade promotion.
Riders will not be able to swap between teams after Sunday the 1st Nov.
A team that does not have the maximum number of riders at the start of the season will be able to add to their team so long as the additional rider is not already in a team.
If a rider from a team should get injured during the season, a team will be able to add a rider to their team so long as the additional rider is not already in a team.
Any additions to teams will require a weeks notice in order to set up the rider/s in the database.
Only the top 3 riders, within the same grade, from each team will score points towards their team.
Grading
Riders will start in their local grade as per the current grading list. Riders can check their current grading classification by clicking on the CCC Latest Grades link on this website. The CCC handicapper (Jeremy Ross) intends to publish an updated list a week prior to the first crit, and anyone with an issue may contact Jeremy onjemegross@bigpond.comto discuss.
NOTE: NO GRADE CHANGES WILL BE PERMITTED ON RACE NIGHT. ALL GRADE CHANGE WILL NEED TO BE CLEARED WITH THE HANDICAPPER THE MONDAY PRIOR TO EACH RACE.
Points Score Details
As per two seasons ago, team members can be spread across the same or multiple grades with a maximum of 7 riders in each team. The top 10 finishers in each grade will be recorded across the finish line with the top 3 riders from each team scoring points towards the team/squad point score in any race.
Organisational Requirements
The Criterium series will not run itself and while we have a handful of people organised for key roles throughout the night, the CCC needs the help of those people within the sport if this season is going to be successful. This year we are trialling the use of squads as a means of providing 4 people every week to monitor the lap board, finish chute and general duties throughout the evening. This year we will calling on each squad to provide 4 people, not necessarily the same people, throughout the season. The squads responsible for marshal duties will be outlined in the Season Roster once Squads are finalised. The season roster can be accessed using the link above.
If you have difficult on your rostered evening it will be your squads responsibility to arrange a squad swap with another group of riders.
The club is also looking for someone to handle the registration desk on Wednesday night. This is not a difficult task, just one that requires the consistency of one individual. If you would like to nominate for this position or require further information, please contact Jason Parkes on jpparkes@three.com.au or 0401 816 440
All concerns with regards to this arrangement should be directed to nathanspillane@me.com
Another good and entertaining race was had at Stromlo Forest Park last night with 225 riders present. With a bit of wind about it should have been a night where the breakaways were not successful but three boys in A grade were not playing by the rules and managed to stay away. From all reports the speeds were high across all grades. All the stats and results for the race and any previous race can be found here: http://critsonline.com/

Breast Cancer Awareness Crit – Team QUON are rocked by the news that one of it’s most loyal supporters has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Upon hearing this news TQ have decided to try and raise some awareness and money for breast cancer through the help of Bosom Buddies ACT. With the endorsement of CCC the final crit of 2009/10 will be used to promote breast cancer. TQ are running a BBQ on the night and TQ and Vikings have already agreed to donate all winnings to the cause. TQ have already secured a framed and signed Columbia HTC jersey to be auctioned at the ACT Cycling Federations awards night.
