Summer Criterium Information 10/11
Welcome to the 2010/11 Summer Criterium Series While the formulation of the calendar is still being completed, there may be some practical information we can provide to help you prepare for the coming crit season. With the selection of 3 Canberra riders in the Commonwealth Games team for 2010, two riders with Junior World track medals and a number of Canberra riders doing particularly well in the professional riding scene, we anticipate a bigger and better 2010/11 summer series. Over the past few years we have seen a HUGE increase in rider number out on Wednesday nights and last year averaged 217 riders per night with the biggest night being early November with 279 riders. However the judge of a successful night cannot be based on rider numbers alone. The family festive atmosphere at the crit track is one that makes us proud to be associated with cycling in the ACT. So without dribbling on any more, here is some key information for the upcoming season. - Season Start: 20th October 2010
- Season Duration: 19 races over 23 weeks
- Season Completion: 16th March 2010
NB: The official season start date is 20th October as stated above, however there will two weeks of ‘warm-up’ events this year that are designed to introduce new riders and reacquaint existing riders with the crit track. The warm up events will not be included as part of the summer series and will be free of charge. The events are not only designed to address rider familiarity but the Crit coordinators and membership staff will also be around to answer any questions riders may have. The ‘warm up’ events will consist of 3 rides, one 50 minutes, one 40 minutes and one 30 minutes and will be loosely graded into three categories of ‘easy’, ‘medium’ and ‘hard’. Riders will be responsible for placing themselves in the race they wish to compete in and crit organising staff will monitor the lap clock and counter. Note: for rider insurance reasons, all riders will need to have a current CA licence or purchase a temporary licence on the night.
