Event Details - Pointscore 8 - Iron Mike 110km and 55km

7 August - rego from 12noon (at the top of the Event Pavilion)

The premier road cycling event on the winter race calendar in Canberra, the Iron Mike offers a challenge for all grades and abilities. For a brief history of the Iron Mike have a look at the following link: Iron Mike Race History

The Iron Mike Course follows Uriarra Road from near the entrance to the Stromlo crit circuit through Uriarra Crossing along the scenic straight up past the homestead, into the lower Brindabella hills to the end of the tar before returning to the Stromlo Forest Park entry.

Total distance per lap is approximately 55 km

Grades/Distances

Details:

* Racing will commence at 1pm on Saturday, 7 August 2009.

* Registration will open at 12.00 noon and close at 12.45pm.

* The Times-7 RFID Timing system will be used. Don’t forget to bring both your permanent race number and RFID Tag.

* Entry is $5 if you have a Permanent Race Number and Times-7 RFID Tag. Entry for members who do not have permanent numbers/RFID Tags will be $15

Starting with thanks. To Jason Parkes and Em Walshe on rego - a sterling effort with so many entrants including a lot of new riders. (A reminder that riders should contact Jason early in a week before a race to get a race number and Times7 tag - it will make entry soooo much smoother with riders just needing to say their number and hand over their entry money.) To the marshals: Ben Smith, Richard Stanton, Dave Whitelaw, and Pete Gough. Without volunteers racing wouldn't be possible - thanks to you all.

And now, a quick race report:

Eighty nine riders started in fantastic clear and (relatively!) warm sunny Winter conditions for the 2010 Iron Mike. The course is a tough one, with lots of climbing per lap, which made for exciting racing. The course this year went to theend of the bitumen which meant each lap was approximately 55km.

MA, MB, MC & WA all completed two laps of the course, with MD, WB, ME & WC tackling one lap.

Note:

Due to a recent update to the Times-7 software we use for race results, we've had a couple of glitches with the race results. Firstly, the finish times for each grade are recorded as the time of day. For your reference, the start times were:

• MA 13:07
• MB 13:09
• MC / WA 13:11
• MD / WB 13:14
• ME / WC 13:16

We also had an issue with D grade results, where the system would not turn on in time to catch the top 6. We were unable to record 3rd and 6th places due to being unable to read race numbers. If you could please get in contact, we will get the results updated.

This problem also resulted in the inadvertent DNF'ing of 3 C graders. If you did finish in C grade and you were recorded as a DNF, please let us know.

Finally, thank you to all 89 riders for a great day's racing. It's great to see so many of you still racing through winter. We even had a couple from AliceSprings visit - I hope you enjoyed the race!

With less than a month of winter to go, we can see the days getting longer and feel the weather getting warmer - i'm sure we'll be seeing more of you out at future races.
