The day started with Jason Parks arriving
at SFP dressed as if he were in some Northern tropical environment. He then
started to ‘toss about’ job specific words and claiming them to be part of the
common vernacular. The brisk Canberra
morning with a cool wind blowing meant goose pimps and shivers were quick to
arrive in his body. Saved later by a wind vest provided by Marty Mullin, (the
ever prepared family man). The rego desk
was ready early, but the bulk of the riders arrived only minutes before the due
start time. The races started only slightly late.
I would like to thank the marshals for
helping out. The usual was observed with a couple of wives and girlfriends
filling in for respective partners. Marty was ‘far out’ at he turning point and
Kris Johnston at SFP gate, thanks guys.
Mens A
A field of 17 started, Sean Moran, (without
pink gloves of late but with some pink on his kit) was keen to try his legs on
the hills after a recent illness. A couple of Elders boys (Tolhurst and
Sieper) were keen to show off some of their secret knowledge, (now that they
true elders, ie, racing as masters category riders). Brad Morton, (is he a
roady or MTB rider?) was ready to sit and unleash his trade mark ‘kick’ at the
right time.
A couple of breaks got away during the race
but they all came together towards the finish. The bunch came down off the hill
and entered the finishing straight like a giant squid attacking with tentacles
leading. Tolhurst, somehow, perhaps using his secret knowledge got his big
frame across the line first ahead of Brad’s usual blistering ‘kick’ and the
fast finishing Tony Gaudry, (a loud scream was heard come from one of these
leading guys).
Mens B
Many Quon boys were in the field and CCC
would like to thank them for supporting this race. This race was slightly
delayed as a couple of the Quon guys were fitted with RFID tags, (although they
looked mystified by the long used devices). Several guys came into the home
straight for another bunch sprint. Congratulations to Tristan Webber for
finishing ahead of Leigh Taylor and Avinash Vasudeva.
Mens C
This field of 15 included Scott Sparkman
who must have judged that there are not enough kms in those legs to get his
hulking, defined, firemans upper body up the hills that were ahead. In the
finish their was a ‘dual out’ between Karl and Kenneth with Karl taking first.
Mens D and E
These unusually small bunches soon broke up
leaving the riders to deal with the wind and hills on their own. Congrats to
Timothy, Raymond and Martin for taking the places in D and Tim, Matthew and
Craig for taking the places in E. The ever present aged warrior John Warren
also completed the race.
Females
Congratulations to Myfanwy for a strong
ride and racing with the C grade men. Well done to Lyn, Shridevi, Lee and Amy
for finishing. A special congrats t
young Amy Jeppsen who showed real determination to plug away in the wind
and on hills for two and half hours.
A good morning appeared to be had by all.
Later Shaw, Dreery and friends were seen on a training ride waiting for another
day.
