Event Details:

The premier road cycling event on the winter race calendar in Canberra, the Iron Mike offers a challenge for all grades and abilities.

The Iron Mike is a good test and a great chance to get out on the bike following the 2009 Tour de France. You saw the peloton sweep through the French countryside and especially the hill climbers pound up the hills before flying down into the valleys. Now you get a course which lets you experience the whole range of ups and downs. The Iron Mike Course follows Uriarra Road from near the entrance to the Stromlo crit circuit through Uriarra Crossing along the scenic straight and up past the homestead and into the lower Brindabella hills to Condor Creek, and then returns to Stromlo Forest Park entry.

Total distance per lap is approximately 50 km

Course Map can be found here.

Event Results:

What a great afternoon for the toughest event of the winter race calendar, the iron mike, 78 starters with only a few not making it to the end. It was great to see the riders come across from Tumut, Wagga and Cootamundra.

A grade 9 riders, B grade 22 riders, C grade 22 riders, D grade 17 riders & E grade 8 riders

The Iron Mike is held in memory of club hardman from the early eighties, Mike Paral. Mike, who was formerly of the Canberra Old Boys, shortly before the COBACC merged with the Canberra Wests to form the CCC, died in March 1983.

The Iron Mike is regarded as one of the toughest race on the Canberra calendar. At up to 50km per lap, the race is held on a demanding undulating course that includes four major climbs per lap, including the 3km climb back out of Uriarra.

Thankyou to our marshals, Bruce Norton, David Whitelaw, Travis Hicks, Rob Clement, Malcolm Paterson and Laurie.

Thankyou to Rego - Chris Short and David Deery

Thankyou to Jason Parkes and Emily Walshe (who came out to watch) for the results.

Finally thank you to you the riders.
