Invitation to female cyclists to participate in the Christmas Track Carnivals

As the sponsor of the Devonport Women’s Wheel, Tasmania, which is worth over 7,000 Aus $ for a single cycling track race, and is the RICHEST Wheelrace in Australia, I would like to personally invite any interested female cyclists from any of your clubs, to compete, this coming Christmas.

We have four carnivals (Track racing, running, wood chopping and novelty races eg Beep test) in the series from 26 December to 2 January, 2015 plus four criteriums in between – a week of FUN-PACKED RACING with excellent prizemoney. The Devonport Carnival is held over two nights – 29 and 30 December 2014

I have been sponsoring women’s cycling in North West Tasmania for some years now, because cycling is an expensive sport and women get very little financial support. My daughter, Kirsty Broun,(www.kirstybroun.com) who is now in Brisbane, was the Australian Criterium Champion in 2007 and 2008, and cycled for Australia in Europe for 18 months, so I know the financial burden on the parents.

In 2013, there were only 20 female entries, the lowest for many years. Amy Cure was an additional last minute entry and WON the Women’s Wheel. We were honoured because Devonport was the ONLY Carnival, out of the four, that she entered.
I decided to put some effort in MYSELF this year, to getting more women to come to our Carnival in Devonport. I have emailed and sent Carnival programs to ALL the Cycling Federations in the Northern hemisphere – all the countries of Europe and Russia, states of the USA, and provinces of Canada. I plan to post a 2013 Devonport Carnival program to you, in the next few days, so you can see what a fantastic event we have, plus a whole WEEK of exciting racing.

If any of your riders would like a trip to Tasmania with a week of intensive bicycle racing as the excuse, please contact me at [email protected] or our promotions – [email protected]

The website for entries is www.tas.cycling.org.au

The week’s Events are managed by Caribou Publications – see the full week’s schedule on www.caribou.net.au or www.tascarnivals.com.au
