Thank you to our volunteers to braved the cold conditions to enable a fun morning of racing
Apologies for the results of D and E grade (computer error) so please get in touch if you know who you are who got left out!
Still scarred after last weekend and a long way from home, the Tidbinbilla race was never going to match the Iron Mike for numbers and quality. However, racing is addictive and a lot of the usual suspects fronted in the 1 deg temperature, maybe hoping this might warm them up
A and B combined with around 15 riders
C rode solo with 8
D and E combined with a solo Vanessa from WC to make the third and final group
There was a gentlemen’s agreement between A and B at the start. There were also a lot of tired legs from the Iron Mike the week before
It was bloody freezing sitting in, but Bridge just wouldn’t get off the front! There were a few attacks, Wilson, Brendan, Bridge. A bombing raid from Trent petered out after a few meters. Each failed, likely because the air was so dense, that as soon as you hit the front, wattage doubled and speed seemed to halve
Bridge, Wilson and young gun, Simpson, got away on the first lap, climbing up past Corin, but were an easy enough target on the subsequent downhill. This did paint the picture for what would be the key pinch on lap 2 though
On the last flying downhill, back towards Tidbinbilla, a couple of manic kangaroos hopped all over the road, and as brakes were squealing, Trent blew by like we were standing still, and pinned his ears back for a mad dash to the finish. I think he’d been gapped on the last hill, and either didn’t see the kangaroos or didn’t care. Anyway the chase was on and he was reeled in 1km or so out Bridge sat up, because he’d rather just ride hard than win, and the rest of the group sprinted for the line. Wilson a deserving winner, Brendan 2nd, Rosser 3rd
C grade had the numbers to go solo. The bunch stayed together for what looked to be a nice Saturday morning training ride with the exception of Greg (G-Train) Collis who must have thought it was only a one lap race. D and E also looked to be having a nice morning, trying desperately to stay warm
