From the President’s Desk – June 2014

The month of June has seen a lot of action on the local and interstate racing scene.  The Club was well represented at the always popular Wagga Wagga Cycle Classic weekend and the Ken Dinnerville in Illawarra.

Closer to home, the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend saw the running of another successful 2 Day mini-tour.  The weather was glorious, if a little chilly, and it was great to see riders from Goulburn, Jindabyne, Eurobodalla and Nowra make the journey for the event.  With almost 100 riders lining up on Saturday, the large bunches looked impressive as they headed along Uriarra Road.

May saw our large contingent of Juniors in action at the Peter Blackshaw Real Estate Women and Juniors Tour here in Canberra, and the Goulburn Junior Tour held on the quiet roads in Breadalbane and Gunning.  There was some great results across all age groups with many of the new riders gaining more valuable experience racing at a higher level and with larger bunches.

The Peter Blackshaw Real Estate Tour was a great success.  I would like to congratulate Ed Rice (the Race Director) on a job well done, and say a big thank you to all the CCC members who volunteered their time and made the weekend such a success.

I would also like to congratulate our women who took part in this event, especially those who were racing at this level for the first time.  It can be daunting lining up against NRS level riders on the tough terrain, but you all rode well and we saw some great results across both of the grades.

After a successful Autumn track series, we are looking to run a short Spring series in the lead up to the track season starting up again in mid-October.  The Spring Series will be held on a Saturday afternoon with the traditional Tuesday evening racing beginning once daylight savings commences and we have enough daylight.

Cheers
